Hello everyone and welcome to the Goal Getter Guide Podcast. I am your host and guide, Jen Laffin. Thank you for being here with me again this week to talk about one of my favorite topics, and that is how to doubt your Doubt. As I talk about doubt today, I want to be clear that I am talking about that voice that you hear in the back of your head that is muttering things to you that might not necessarily be helpful, and when most people hear doubt. They think that it's a signal that something is about to go wrong, but it isn't that doubt. It is not your intuition talking, and it is not your truth. It is your primal brain trying to protect you, and listening to doubt has become a real. Lifelong mental habit for a lot of us. So the goal of this episode is not to eliminate your doubt because doubt is always going to be there anytime you want to grow. It is just what the primal brain does. The goal of this episode is for you to learn how to stop letting doubt make your decisions about what you're going to do. With your business. So first, let's talk about why doubt is not real. Doubt is a thought, plain and simple. It is just a thought that your primal brain whispers into the back of your mind. It is not a fact. Facts must be 100% universally accepted and verifiable. All right. That's a really important thing to remember. Doubt feels real because it sounds like your own voice doing the talking and because the primal brain. It is partially responsible for controlling our emotions. So you may actually feel doubt in your body. It may feel like, for me, it feels like a tightness or an anxiety, um, almost like a buzzing even sometime. But I want you to remember that just because something feels true doesn't mean that it is true. Your mind's job is to protect your identity and your energy, not to help you grow It shows up the strongest when you are about to do something new or you are becoming more visible. In other words, when you are outgrowing an old version of yourself, but doubt and hearing doubt, it actually can be a good thing. And here's why. Doubt does not mean that you're off track. We only experience it when we are on the edge of growth, which means. That whenever you do hear it, it is a sign that you are about to grow into what you desire. The choice then my friend, is, are you going to move forward into what you want or are you going to pull back and listen to doubt? Because that doubt, it is very limiting and it is very sneaky and that sneakiness comes at quite an expense. Listening to our doubt and letting it make decisions for us has a really big cost to it. We put off taking action. We overthink and we spin in confusion. We choose to spend more time in our comfort cave than we need to. And the other tricky thing is that doubt, it doesn't always have to be loud. It can be very quiet, and sometimes it doesn't even really use words that uses that feeling.. And it stops you by sounding completely reasonable and responsible. It sounds like your own voice, so we are more prone to listen to it. But I want you to start treating doubt as background noise, not as your decision maker. And this my friends, is a real identity shift for many of us who have spent a lifetime letting doubt make our decisions. I want you to start doing something that I call doubt your doubt, and this is how you take back authority over your decisions. I have three questions that you can ask. Whenever you notice a doubt filled thought in the back of your mind. The first question is simple. Is this true? Whatever the doubt is telling you, ask yourself, is this true? And remember, something that is true has to be 100% verifiable. I want you to go looking for the facts and remember, just because something feels true doesn't mean that it is. Number two, is this thought helpful or is it just my primal brain's way of keeping me stuck? And number three, and this one is a big one, who do I become if I believe this? Does this thought move me forward? Or is it just keeping me the same? So my friends, here are those three questions again, is this true? Is it helpful? Who do I become if I believe this? Write those down on a post-it and keep it somewhere where you will see it often. This is the same protocol that I use when I notice that a doubt filled thought is going to start making decisions for me in my business. So after you've asked yourself these three questions, there's something really, really important you need to do. You need to act before doubt gets a vote, taking action right away. Is going to take away doubt's, power. Remember, you do not need confidence to take action. You build confidence by taking action. Doubt is going to always show up for you anytime you are doing something new, when you are upleveling your identity, and stepping into growth. The fact that doubt shows up is completely normal, remember, it's biological. The shift is not making it disappear or thinking that it needs to disappear before you take action. I want you to decide right now that you are going to be the only one making decisions for yourself and how you run your business. Remember, doubt doesn't protect you from failure, and failure is not a bad thing. We need to fail in order to grow that doubt. It is only protecting you from becoming someone new.
